The Secret Picnic

Groups of friends: Chose a Table Captain and come as a party!

At the last minute, the location is revealed to the guest list. Elegantly-dressed diners head to the secret destination toting picnic baskets stuffed with locally-harvested food they've prepared, set up a feast at their assigned tables, and celebrate the end of summer and start of the harvest with friends old and new. Read more: What to bring.

Guests will enjoy the dining experience of the year, accompanied by fine local wine and refined music by The Ottawa Jazz Orchestra.

The Fashion Show
Hosted by the fabulous China-China Doll, our audience-participation fashion show is back by popular demand! Guests strut their stuff on the catwalk and vie for a chance to win prizes for Most Creative Outfit, Most Innovative Headpiece, and Best Overall Costume. Our esteemed judges for this year's fashion show are Sarah Freemark (CTVOttawaMorningLive co-host), Janet Wilson (Fashion Editor for the Ottawa Citizen), and Frank Sukhoo (Sukhoo Sukhoo Couture).
The Bicycle Flashmob
A large phalanx of guests in black tie finery will converge on a different secret location before the picnic, and then pedal in stately procession together to a triumphant late arrival at the picnic grounds where the other guests will be unpacking and setting up. We are pleased to announce a partnership with Ottawa Right Bike! For those guests who don't have vintage bicycles, a fleet of purple vintage RightBikes will be available for Harvest Noir guests to ride!

  • Welcome to the ultimate end-of-summer party and start-of-harvest ball. With a “chic” picnic, fashion show, DJ dance party featuring TIMEKODE, and several flashmobs, Harvest Noir is a feast for all the senses.

Groups of friends of all ages dress in black, celebrate local food and fine wine at the picnic, and then dance the night away in one of Ottawa's finest venues. HN2012 was Canada's 2nd-largest chic picnic, with 1,500 guests picnicking at City Hall and dancing at the National Arts Centre.

    The DJ After-Party: DANCE NOIR

An exciting dance party, populated by guests dressed in creative, elegant black, goes down inside one of Ottawa's most important cultural venues. Plan to stay up late: Harvest Noir was voted one of Ottawa's sexiest parties.

TIMEKODE will be taking Harvest Noir picnic-goers and after-party guests on a Soulful Journey Through Dance Music Eras, starting with vintage jazz, big band & swing and winding through the decades before landing in the land of funk, soul, & groove. DJ Eric Latulippe will be dropping the Ultimate Crowd-Pleasing mix of Top40 & Classic Rock on the Mainstream Dancefloor. Read more.

Before the picnic, Harvest Noir attendees pull on their top hats and fancy fascinators and meet for a mass shopping flashmob at farmer's markets to buy the ingredients for their picnic feasts. You have to be on the guest list to know where and when this will happen.
    Inspired by Paris

Following the trend from Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Berlin, New York City and Montréal, now Ottawa has its own chic picnic! Variously labeled as a gastronomique flash mob, guerrilla tea time, or rogue supper club, such sumptuous events are taking the world’s great cities by storm - inspired by a 23-year tradition of genteel annual picnic dining in Paris (view on YouTube).
